I met with my constituent John Green about whiplash and personal injury compensation reforms. John raised many issues with what the Government is attempting to do. The Government are trying to fix problems that have already been fixed. The whiplash reforms, based on partial data, will hand millions to insurance companies, while denying over 600,000 people access to justice.
The Justice Select Committee have criticised Ministry of Justice proposals ‘There is compelling evidence of the obstacles that would be faced by self-represented claimants navigating the current personal injury claims process… this would represent an unacceptable barrier to access to justice.’
I am very concerned about these proposals restricting ordinary people from being able to access the justice they deserve. It should not just be wealthy individuals who can use our justice system. The Government needs to listen to concerned people, like John, and change their proposals.
